There are eight candidates running for three open seats on the Southern Door School District’s Board of Education. We asked the candidates to respond to a questionnaire and give us insight into why they are running for the position, what they hope to do on the school board and what challenges are facing Southern Door.
Board members will have to make some tough decisions about the district’s financial future. In April 2013, voters didn’t approve a revenue limit override, leading the district to cutting $750,000 – 7.5 percent – from its budget in the 2013-14 school year. Since then, the district has cut or added fees to scores of programs to make up for the loss.
