Meet the A-Team at Clay Bay Pottery

Clay Bay Pottery invites the public to enjoy refreshments and art at the opening of its summer show, The A-Team, on July 5, 5 – 8 pm. The reception features the work of resident potters Jeanne and David Aurelius, the first ‘A’s of the team. Joining them with their first public show at Clay Bay are Abigail Olson and Adam Hutchinson.

Olson has worked in the studio and gallery for the past 10 years, following her graduation from the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire with a BFA in ceramics and illustration. Bright colors and distinct shapes typify her pieces.

Hutchinson began his pottery studies at the University of Wisconsin – Whitewater. After transferring to the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, he pursued interests in furniture and film, but fell in love with working with clay. His first Door County job took him in a different direction altogether as he was the assistant winemaker at Stones Throw Winery for two years. An apprenticeship with potter Chad Luberger confirmed his desire to return to pottery.

Jeanne and David Aurelius studied at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa and spent several summers studying with Marguerite Wildenhain at Pond Farm in Guerneville, Cali. Jeanne seeks inspiration in the world around her. People fascinate her too, and the droll expressions of her whimsical lady vases make them collectibles. David’s work features abstract design and unique glazes. His talent at the wheel is evident in his beautifully shaped platters, vases and lamps.

On July 6, 12 – 3 pm, the artists will display their expertise with demonstrations of throwing on the wheel and decorating techniques.
