Meet the Makers at von Stiehl

Meet the Makers, being held at von Stiehl Winery in Algoma on June 20, will be a blend of two types of festivals featuring specialty wines and beers made exclusively for that day. The Makers, Ahnapee Brewery brewers and von Stiehl winemakers, will be the ones pouring, answering all questions and giving festival attendees the chance to judge, taste, and write descriptions of the experimental batches. Awards will be given for the most accurate, and most hilarious, descriptions.

Festivals usually come with food, and this one will bring food on a huge scale. The spent grains from Ahnapee Brewery are currently being fed to a steer that is a cross between a Texas Longhorn and Jersey on the Bryersquart Family Farm in Door County. This steer will be immersed in a von Stiehl cherry wine marinade, then pit roasted by wine maker Aric Schmiling and Chef Chris from Skaliwags. Proceeds from the roast will go to the Ribbon of Hope Foundation.

MockingBird will perform covers from the ’70s and ’80s from 11 am – 2 pm, and Brass Differential will serve up a spicy New Orleans-based gumbo of covers with brass from 2 – 6 pm.

The cover is just $5 per person. For more information visit vonStiehl.com/meetthemakers or call 800.955.5208.
