Meetings to Watch

The County of Door is looking for public feedback in upcoming public meetings on two issues. The first meeting pertains to a Master Plan for all Door County facilities in Sturgeon Bay (the Door County Government Center, library, Miller Art Museum, historical museum and the former Younkers Building). The second meeting will offer and gather ideas on how to spend $5.3 million in American Rescue Plan Act money. Virtual options are available for the meetings. Check out the details for both below.

ARPA Funds Public Information Meeting

Wednesday, Jan. 12, 6 pm
County Government Chambers Room
421 Nebraska St. in Sturgeon Bay and via Zoom

The State and Local Coronavirus Fiscal Recovery Fund, part of the American Rescue Plan Act, allocated $65.1 billion to be spread directly across every county in the United States. The County of Door’s share of that money was $5,374,185.

The county has some ideas about how best to spend that money, but it is seeking input. The purpose of the Jan. 12 meeting is to give background on the county’s allocation and rules about how the money can be used, present some ideas about how the county could use the funds, and receive public input on the ideas presented and other ideas the public may have regarding the use of the money.

Master Plan Public Information Meeting

Tuesday, Jan. 4, 6 pm

County Government Chambers Room

421 Nebraska St. in Sturgeon Bay and via Zoom

The County of Door wants input from the public on a master plan that’s been developed for its Sturgeon Bay facilities: the Door County Government Center, library, Miller Art Museum, historical museum and the former Younkers Building. The plan will be presented for feedback during the Jan. 4 meeting.

The plans have been prepared by HGA, a company the county hired in May for $48,000 to “build upon previously completed facility assessments and develop a comprehensive and cohesive long-term vision and plans for their renovation and expansion,” according HGA’s master-planning services proposal. The project involves two phases. The master plan is considered Phase 1, and Phase 2 would be facility schematic design and concepts, as well as budget estimates.
