Melody Hargis Earns Jody Boes Scholarship

During National Nurses Week the Jody Boes Scholarship, set up in 2017 by Bill and Pam Welter, was awarded to Melody Hargis. The scholarship provides nurses pursuing an advanced degree at either the Master’s or Doctorate level with $2,500 to apply toward their tuition.

Hargis has been a nurse at Door County Medical Center (DCMC) since 2013. She served as Lieutenant Commander in the US Naval reserves until she was called to active duty in October 2006 and sent to Landstuhl, Germany. After her active duty she continued to work for the Department of Defense as a civilian in Germany until her and her family relocated to Door County to be closer to family.

Hargis said, “I am truly blessed to have been selected as the first recipient of the Jody Boes Scholarship. It is a distinct honor and privilege to receive this award. Jody had an authentic passion for nursing and she exhibited that every day. She used advanced knowledge and skills including clinical expertise, evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring, and professional leadership always with a major focus on the organization. Jody helped start me out on my journey to excellence here at DCMC.”

The Jody Boes Scholarship is available to eligible candidates at DCMC who are pursuing an advanced degree in nursing, including but not limited to:  MSN; NP; CRNA; PhD; Clinical Nurse Specialist; and Clinical Nurse Leader.
