Southern Door:  Members of George W. Goetz American Legion Post 372, Forestville, will visit the following 22 cemeteries:  Forestville Town (Maplewood), 7:20 am; Namur (Pit Road), 7:30 am; Brockhausen, 7:40; Miesere, 7:50; Brown, 7:55; Kolberg, 8:05; Brussels, 8:20; White Star, 8:30; Precious Blood, 8:40; Stevenson, 9; Geises, 9:10; Old Catholic (between Maplewood and Forestville), 9:25; Maplewood, 9:55; Carnot, 10:10; Clay Banks, 10:25; Vignes, 10:35; Mount Olive, 10:45; Shoiloh Moravian, 10:55; Schumacher, 11:05; Hainesville, 11:15; Salem-Schulties, 11:35; Forestville, 11:50. 

Monday, May 26

Sturgeon Bay:  Brief ceremonies will be conducted at Bayside at 8:30 am, St. Joseph’s Cemetery at 9 am, and the Dorchester at 9:30 am. The ceremony at the Door County Veterans Memorial (in front of City Hall) will begin at 10 am. The Chaplain will be Pastor Sauer and Marine Corps League Detachment 1130 will provide the rifle squad. The speaker will be Commander John Stone of U.S. Coast Guard cutter Mobile Bay. The Peninsula Symphonic Band will play patriotic music before and during the ceremony. Andy Anderson and Mary Nickel will sound echo taps. Refreshments after the ceremony will be provided by American Legion Post 72. The public is asked to bring lawn chairs as seating will be limited. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Sturgeon Bay Fire Department bays.

Northern Door:  Billy Weiss American Legion Post 527 of Sister Bay and VFW Post 8337 of Ellison Bay will hold two Memorial Day Ceremonies. The first event will be a wreath-laying ceremony at 9 am at Hendrickson Park on the corner of Mill Road and Hwy 42 in the Village of Sister Bay.

At 10:30 am the veterans will gather at Little Sister Cemetery on Little Sister Road, next to Bay Ridge Golf Course in Sister Bay. The service will begin with American Legion Post 527, VFW Post 8337 and the Boy Scouts marching to the Eldred and Millie Koepsel Memorial Flag Pole to lower the flag to half-staff. Reverend Mark Billington of First Baptist Church in Sister Bay will lead our invocation. The mixed choir will sing a selection of songs, and the Gibraltar Band led by Army Veteran Charlie Eckhardt will play a medley of military songs. Former Marine Captain Michael Walker will be the featured speaker. First Assembly District Assemblyman Garey Bies will also speak. Deceased veterans will be honored with the reading of their names by Post 527 Adjutant Don Sitte and VFW Post 8337 Post Commander Bob Tidball. Post 527 Bugler Dale Seaquist will play taps for the 68th consecutive year, and the ceremony will conclude with the singing of “God Bless America” by soloist Amanda Larson of Ephraim.

Please bring a chair. In case of hard rain, the ceremony will be held at First Baptist Church, 2622 S. Bay Shore Drive (Highway 42), Sister Bay.

Washington Island:  The ceremony will be held at 10:30 am at Bethel Church. The speaker will be Colonel (Retired) Ron Rusing, USAF, who is a member of Washington Island’s American Legion Post 402. There will be a reading of student essays and music. Everyone will then march to the cemetery where there will be bagpipes, a rifle squad, and a bugler sounding “Taps.” The names of departed comrades will be read, followed by a prayer and the placement of a wreath at Schoolhouse Beach.
