Mental Health Screening, Discussion at Sturgeon Bay High School

Do It for Daniel – a documentary about Daniel Olson and his struggle with anxiety and depression – will be screened Oct. 22 at the Sturgeon Bay High School Auditorium, 1230 Michigan St. A short presentation will begin at 6 pm; the documentary will follow. The evening will include a discussion with Daniel’s father, Jeff Olson. It is free and open to the public.

Do It for Daniel (doitfordaniel.com) chronicles the life of Daniel, whose struggles with anxiety and depression ultimately led him to take his life at age 19. He was an all-state high school athlete in rural Ishpeming, Michigan, and a high achiever who loved to help people, was devoted to his family and friends, and was a beloved member of the community.

The goal of this event is to have a conversation about mental health and suicide. By lessening the stigma associated with talking about mental health, it may become easier for those in pain to get the help they need. High school students may attend if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
