Merry-Time Festival of Trees Starts at DCMM

“On Deck for the Holidays,” tree decorated by On Deck Clothing Company for the Merry-time Festival of Trees.

The Merry-Time Festival of Trees began at the Door County Maritime Museum in Sturgeon Bay on Nov. 16. For the festival, dozens of beautifully decorated Christmas trees are scattered throughout the museum’s galleries.

Every day is “kid’s day” during the festival, as children accompanied by an adult receive free admission to the museum.

More family opportunities during the festival are Pirate Day on Nov. 30, 10:30 am – 3:30 pm, and the appearance of Santa Claus on the historic tug John Purves on Dec. 7, 10 am – 1 pm. “Pirate Day” features photo opportunities with “Bob the Bird,” pirate games, crafts and climbing aboard the half-scale pirate ship Fortune.

The festival climaxes on Dec. 10 with “Jingle, Jingle, Mix & Mingle,” a social event with heavy hors d’oeuvres, a final bidding on the silent auction and the tree raffle drawing. Admission is $10 for museum members and $20 for guests. Advanced reservations are recommended.

The popular Speaker Series will feature Captain Gary Schmidt and Warren Gerds. They will introduce their new book Real Honest Sailing with a Great Lakes Captain on Dec. 5 at 7 pm.

All programs are held at 7 pm on Thursday. The other speakers include: Keith Kollberg (Jan. 2), Mark Holey (Feb. 6), and Lieutenant Commander John Kaser (March 6). For more information call 920.743.5958 or visit dcmm.org.
