Meteor Shower, Kyle Megna Duo & More Weekend Plans

The peninsula is home to a variety of artists, and there’s an opportunity to see their work every day this weekend. Assess finely crafted wooden boats, watch artists demonstrate their talent, or browse through an arts and crafts fair to get a taste of what these artists have to offer.

Friday, Aug. 12

Door County Classic & Wooden Boat Festival

Take in beautiful classic and wooden boats on the Sturgeon Bay waterfront. Competitors will begin the building portion of the Sikaflex Challenge, which involves two-person teams building a boat from limited materials in just four hours. The concession stand will serve food and drinks, including freshly caught whitefish sandwiches. 4 pm.

Notable Women Series

Historical impressionist Jessica Michna will portray Laura Ingalls Wilder at the Ephraim Village Hall. Enjoy tea while learning about the Midwest’s pioneer past. 2 pm.

Perseid Meteor Shower

Bring a lawn chair or blanket to Newport State Park, one of the darkest places in Door County, and settle in to view this spectacular astronomical event. 8:30 pm.

Saturday, Aug. 13

Barn Door Flea and Vintage Day

Snag some inexpensive finds at the Liberty Gove Historical Society’s rummage sale. Bring the kids and buy a kite for them to fly. 10 am – 3 pm.

Door County Festival of Fine Arts

Door County’s finest artists come together to demonstrate their skills and sell their artwork. The festival will include live music and hands-on art activities. 10 am – 5 pm.

Artist Reception

Head over to the Door County Art League Gallery to view some of Karen DeNoto’s work in oils and pastels. 3 – 5 pm.

Sunday, Aug. 14

Shanty Days Celebration of the Lake

Enjoy live music and food as you check out the wide assortment of vendors at the arts and crafts fair and street fair. See the results of the weekend-long fishing contest. Cap off the evening with a fireworks show. 10 am – 9 pm.

Kyle Megna Duo

This Wisconsin-based group combines elements from indie, blues, folk and rock to create a show unlike any other. Relish an afternoon of beer drinking at the Door County Brewing Co. as you listen to this duo. 1 pm.

Larry Gatlin and the Blackwood Brothers

Enjoy an evening of outdoor music with this country music singer. The artist is joined by The Blackwood Brothers, an American southern gospel quartet. 7 pm.
