Michael Burkhardt Hosts Hymn Festival

Internationally known for his innovative and inspiring hymn festivals, Michael Burkhardt will lead “The Shepherd and the Lambs: A Hymn Festival” on Sunday, June 20 at 7 pm at Shepherd of the Bay Lutheran Church in Ellison Bay.

Hymns from many global traditions form the basis of this festival, complimented by poetry of William Blake and Christina Rossetti. Burkhardt’s original music and improvisations will also be featured.

The festival is free to the public; a free-will offering will be collected. A reception will follow the festival, offering guests a chance to meet Burkhardt.

Burkhardt is a choral clinician, organ recitalist, and hymn festival leader. An alumnus of Carthage College, he served on its faculty as Director of Choral Activities, College Organist, and Artist in Residence from 2001 to 2007. Presently, he is Director of Music at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Lavonia, Michigan.
