Michael Doerr Reception at Martinez Studio

Martinez Studio celebrates the contemporary handmade furniture of Michael Doerr during their Guest Artist Weekend, August 15 – 19. Doerr will be at the gallery from 12 – 4 pm each day and for the public reception held Aug. 17, 3 – 7 pm.

Born of a lifetime dedicated to fine craft, the rich surfaces of Wence and Sandra Martinez’s weavings paired with Doerr’s signature chair series, tables and book-matched wall cabinets reflect attention to beauty, functionality and comfort.

“For the last two years, we have been honored to share a booth with Michael Doerr at the Architectural Digest Design Show in Manhattan,” said Sandra Martinez. “It is a special treat to fill our gallery with Michael’s work.”

Made by hand, without computer-aided saws, the exhibit includes a one-of-a-kind large live edge table, a burl rocker and book matched wall cabinets.

Doerr’s career started as a shipwright, working on large wooden sailboats. Applying that knowledge and expertise to thirty years of furniture design and construction, he has created a large portfolio of commissioned work.

Since founding Doerr Woodworking in 1989, Doerr has developed a national and international clientele. Furniture historian Oscar Fitzgerald included his work in the Parson School of Design/Smithsonian Institute lecture series on contemporary American crafts.

Doerr is represented by Woodwalk Gallery in Egg Harbor. For more information visit MichaelDoerr.com.
