Michael Lee Ammons and Water Street Hot Shots at Jacksonport Town Hall Bakery

Old-time blues band Michael Lee Ammons and the Water Street Hot Shots will perform at the Jacksonport Town Hall Bakery on Oct. 12 at 7 pm.

The Sheboygan-based Hot Shots are a hard-working traditional blues string band. Drawing from acoustic musical styles of the 1920s and ‘30s, The Hot Shots repertoire includes old-time blues, ragtime, novelty, and “hokum” party music featuring slide guitar in the style of masters like Son House and Tampa Red, jug band tunes, and string band blues.

The Hot Shots play regularly in Door County and across Wisconsin and have developed a passionate and devoted fan following over the years. As winners of the 2009 Grafton Blues Challenge, the Hot Shots traveled to Memphis in 2010 to compete in the International Blues Challenge.

In addition to Tim Dekker (fiddle), Alan “Doc” Mock (mandolin), JR Fenner (bass), and Steve Irby (drums), the Hot Shots feature two names especially familiar to Door County residents: Michael Lee Ammons on lead vocals and slide guitar and Rich Higdon on washboard, bass, and other assorted instruments.

Tickets cost $15 and seating is general admission. Reservations are encouraged, call 920.823.2116. For more information, visit ammonshotshots.com.
