Michigan Bridge Under Weight Restrictions

The Michigan Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay was closed for inspection by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation the morning of April 28 after a backhoe being towed across the bridge on April 22 struck a number of beams. Due to the accident, the bridge is restricted to vehicles less than 20 tons. Vehicles more than 20 tons must use the Maple Street/Oregon Street Bridge to cross the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal. The backhoe is owned by a Marinette man. Maintenance crews closed the bridge to all traffic after the accident, inspected the damage, and reopened the bridge the morning of April 23.
