Michigan Street Bridge to Close Dec. 4 – 12

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region office announces the Michigan Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian Monday morning, Dec. 4 through Tuesday, Dec. 12. This continuous closure is necessary to repair multiple bridge beams struck by over-height vehicles. The bridge will continue to open for marine traffic while repairs take place.

Detour signs will direct motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians to use the Maple/Oregon Street Bridge to cross the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal. The Bayview Bridge is another alternate route to consider during the repair work.

One over-height vehicle struck support beams on May 31, 2017. Another over-height vehicle damaged support beams on the opposite side of the bridge on June 29, 2017. Work crews will heat-straighten seven beams. One beam will be entirely replaced.

All repair work is weather dependent.
