The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Northeast Region office announces the Michigan Street Bridge in Sturgeon Bay will be closed to vehicle traffic and pedestrians Monday morning, Dec. 4, through Tuesday, Dec. 12. This continuous closure is necessary to repair multiple bridge beams struck by over-height vehicles. The bridge will continue to open for marine traffic while repairs take place. Detour signs will direct people to use the Maple/Oregon Street Bridge to cross the Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal. The Bayview Bridge is another alternate route to consider during the repair work. One over-height vehicle struck support beams on May 31, 2017. Another over-height vehicle damaged support beams on the opposite side of the bridge on June 29, 2017. Work crews will heat-straighten seven beams. One beam will be entirely replaced. All repair work is weather dependent.
