Microbiologist to Discuss Groundwater Contamination June 19

The Door County Environmental Council will host a presentation by USDA research microbiologist Mark Borchardt on June 19, 7 pm, at the Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor. He’ll present a free program about the sources and risk factors related to groundwater contamination in northeast Wisconsin.

Borchardt and his colleagues have researched well contamination in Kewaunee County and have presented their findings at national and international conferences. The tainted drinking water has been attributed to livestock farming, human waste and fractured dolomite aquifer geology. Borchardt’s research reveals essential data that clarify this situation and suggest ways to reduce illness due to pathogens in wells.

Borchardt is also presenting his water data information at the Kewaunee County Land & Water Dept., 625 Third St., Luxemburg, Thursday, June 20, at 6pm.
