Midsummer’s Music Announces July 10 CD Release Party

Door County’s Midsummer’s Music is pleased to announce a public release party on July 10 for a new double CD, A Bel Canto Summer.

The CD set features violinist David Perry and flutist Jean Berkenstock, along with members of the Midsummer’s Music ensemble, on 14 pieces by 14 classical composers including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Edward Collins, Gaetano Donizetti, Johann Sebastian Bach, and A. Oscar Haugland. More than a year of planning has gone into this incredible recording.

In the early nineteenth century, a style of singing developed in Italy known as bel canto, or “beautiful singing.” Its characteristics were great flexibility, graceful expressive lines, extreme virtuosity paired with exquisite control, and gorgeous tonal quality.

The cover artwork –titled “It used to be red” – is by Door County artist Margaret Lockwood.

The party is scheduled for 3 to 5:30 pm at Margaret Lockwood Gallery at 7 South 2nd Ave. (at Michigan St.) in Sturgeon Bay. David, Jean and Margaret will be present to autograph the CDs. Come meet the musicians, enjoy a glass of wine with some light hors d’oeuvres, and purchase an autographed CD set.
