Midsummer’s Music Festival Hosts “Downton Abbey” Period Concerts

Midsummer’s Music Festival is bringing music of the Downton Abbey period to three concerts that feature three English composers from the turn of the 20th Century. The pieces are ones that may have been played in places like Highclere Castle, the setting of the Downton Abbey PBS series.

The following music will be played: Fantasy No. 1 in G Minor by Charles Villiers Stanford, Piano Quintet in C Minor by Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Piano Quintet in A Minor, Op. 84 by Edward Elgar. The works were composed between the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century by English composers.

The first of the three concerts will be July 1 at 7 pm at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Ephraim with a “Downton Abbey Affair” theme, where attendees are invited to dress in their finest Edwardian, World War I, and Roaring Twenties outfits. Concertgoers are invited to a pre-concert open house at the Hillside Inn of Ephraim from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, where Diane Taillon’s collection of Downton Abbey memorabilia will be on display.

The concert will play again July 2 at Björklunden in Baileys Harbor and July 5 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Sister Bay. Both concerts are at 7 pm.

Tickets are $29 for adults, $10 for students, and free for ages 12 and under. For more information visit midsummersmusic.com.
