Midsummer’s Music Hosts 7th Annual “Renaissance Christmas”

Sponsored by Midsummer’s Music and featuring the Chicago Early Music Consort, the 7th annual “Renaissance Christmas” concerts will take place throughout the peninsula the weekend of Dec. 11 – 13.

“Our program this year consists of vocal and instrumental music from the English Renaissance,” said Gary Berkenstock, the Consort’s artistic director. “This is a period from the reign of Henry VII through the reign of Charles I.”

The performance will feature many of England’s greatest composers including Christopher Tye, Thomas Tallis, Thomas Morley, and Thomas Weelkes. The Consort will also perform several instrumental works by Anthony Holborne.

The Chicago Early Music Consort includes Stephanie Sheffield, Gary Berkenstock, Joel Spears, and Phillip W. Serna.

On Friday, Dec. 10 the concert will take place at Bjorklunden in Baileys Harbor. The event will include a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception, a silent auction, and a catered dinner by Alexander’s. The cost is $60 per person and advance reservations are required.

The other two concert events feature goodwill offerings and will take place Saturday, Dec. 11 at Shepherd of the Bay in Ellison Bay at 7 pm and Sunday, Dec. 12 at Birch Creek in Egg Harbor at 2 pm. A suggested $10 goodwill offering per adult is encouraged.
