“An ‘Up North’ Vacation” by Polly Joubert.

The Door County Art League (DCAL) Gallery, Fish Creek, is showcasing the art of Gretchen Misselt and Polly Joubert June 28 – July 4. There will be a wine and cheese reception on June 28 from 1 – 3 pm.

Educated as a fiber artist, Gretchen Misselt took a class in pastel after retiring to Washington Island. She credits this class with giving her the courage she needed to paint. According to Misselt, one can’t help but be an artist when surrounded by the beauty of Door County. Painting allows her to more directly reflect her surroundings.

Polly Joubert is a former teacher and designer of custom needlework, but she has always been a painter. Mostly self-taught, Joubert’s finely detailed acrylic paintings tell the stories of the upper Midwest – its scenery, people and spirit. Her imaginative artwork has won several awards and has been juried into the Hardy Gallery in Ephraim. She lives in Hartland, Wis.

The DCAL gallery displays original 2-D and 3-D artwork from 23 DCAL member artists. The gallery, located in the rear courtyard of the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek, is open 11 am to 5 pm every day except Wednesday, and from 11 am to 3 pm on Sundays.
