Mike Lee Celebrates 20 Years of Birch Creek Instruction

For 42 years, Birch Creek Music Performance Center has brought the best and the brightest faculty from across the U.S. to educate promising young musicians. These faculty members are the best in their respective fields, and have performed with many iconic artists across all genres such as Aretha Franklin, New York Voices, Don Henley, Wynton Marsalis, Manhattan Transfer, Barry Manilow, and Arturo Sandoval. This year, Birch Creek has the pleasure of inducting one of these great musicians into their 20 Year Club. Mike Lee, Big Band Jazz I Faculty, is celebrating his 20th year of service to the organization by joining an elite circle of 24 faculty members, with more than 20 years of teaching and mentoring Birch Creek’s talented music students.

Lee has been a part of the greater New York Jazz Scene for almost 30 years and has a proven track record as a versatile soloist and a consummate ensemble musician.

In reflecting on his 20 years at Birch Creek, he said, “Birch Creek has been an oasis of music and friendship for me over the past two decades. Birch Creek has had a profound impact on each of my two sons and the many students I have brought over the years. The friendships made here are lifelong which extend well beyond the camp. I wish every student of music could experience this unique program.”

Lee will perform and teach at Birch Creek this summer. He can be heard performing as lead tenor saxophone during Jazz I concerts July 26-29. Concert and session dates are posted at birchcreek.org/tickets.
