The Miller Art Museum, 107 S. 4th Ave. in Sturgeon Bay, will open 44th Juried Annual – an exhibition featuring 48 contemporary works by artists from Door, Kewaunee, Brown, Manitowoc, Oconto and Sheboygan counties – on Nov. 9, with a free public reception, 3-4:30 pm. Awards will be presented during the reception, including three Juror’s Choice Awards, three Special Merit Awards, the Gerhard Miller Award of Excellence and the Bonnie Hartmann Award for Outstanding Creativity. Light refreshments will be served.
Each year, the museum provides a platform for regional artists to exhibit their work and compete for eight cash awards totaling $1,175. This year’s exhibit encompasses a broad array of subject matter and media from 37 artists, whose work was selected from more than 120 submitted pieces.
“One of the most important responsibilities that a visual-arts institution like the Miller Art Museum has is to cultivate a relationship with the community,” said Helen del Guidice, curator of exhibitions and collections. “This exhibition in particular is a unique tool that allows us to support artists’ creativity, engage the community and build bridges between the two.”
