Miller Art Museum Plans Trip to Greece and Turkey

The Miller Art Museum has planned a fifteen-day trip to Greece and Turkey open to the public and museum members. Organized by Far Horizons, this small-group travel expedition will focus on the art, architecture, and cultural history of Greece and Turkey.

The trip offers eye-opening, multi-cultural experiences including ancient treasures, monuments, and buildings of the Byzantine, Ottoman, Greek, and Roman empires. Departing from New York, the trip begins in Istanbul, the great city at the crossroads of the East and West for more than 15 centuries. Along with the 4,000 shops of Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar, tour participants will see significant sites on the Anatolian Peninsula, the Hagia Sophia, medieval cities, beaches, and museums, as well as magnificent Greek and pre-Greek buildings. Three days will feature travel by sailboat to Greek island locations, including the Acropolis in Athens, the Homeric city of Mycenae, and the restored Palace of King Minos. Whether the goal is an educational adventure or the celebration of a special event in an inspiring location, this trip offers opportunities for many types of travelers.

The Miller Art Museum trip takes place in April 2009. To obtain a detailed brochure, visit the museum, call 920.746.0707, or email curator Deborah Rosenthal at [email protected]. Rosenthal will accompany the tour group, and plans to hold an introductory art presentation for participants prior to departure. Please notify the museum of your interest to participate by July 15.
