Barbara Wulf

One of the nation’s longest standing programs to reduce stress, pain and illness has arrived in Door County. With the help of Ministry’s Doctor Chona Antonio, this popular eight-week program led by Barbara Wulf will start its second session on April 23. To learn more about the program, stop by Ministry Door County Medical Center on April 16 for a free information session from 5:30 to 6:30 pm in the Sheldon Room.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction is an eight-week program that introduces the practice of meditation, body awareness and mindful movement. Medical research has shown that Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is effective for the physical and emotional symptoms of general stress, as well as stress due to illness, such as cancer, depression, anxiety disorders, fibromyalgia, psoriasis and chronic pain.

Barbara Wulf, a Door County native, was trained as an MBSR facilitator at the UMass Medical Center’s Center for Mindfulness in 2004 and has been teaching MBSR and related mindfulness programs in universities, communities and businesses in the Twin Cities area for the past nine years.

The MBSR Program includes: weekly 2-1/2 hour classes for eight weeks (starting April 23); guided mindfulness practice, group discussion and instruction; all-day retreat on May 31; the book Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zinn; and four audio CDs to guide home practice.

The program will be held at MDCMC from 6 to 8:30 pm on Wednesdays beginning April 23, with the all day retreat on May 31. The cost is $360. To learn more about the program, call 612.242.0271 or email [email protected].
