The public is invited to a reception for Door County Art League (DCAL) Gallery guest artist Mitch Heinrichs at The Gallery of the Door County Art League on Sept. 17 from 3 to 5 pm. Heinrichs, vice president of DCAL, will exhibit at The Gallery through Sept. 24. Heinrich’s studio and art are also available at his home, the Quarry House, on Spring Road in Fish Creek.
Located in the courtyard at The Top of the Hill Shops, the DCAL Gallery features the watercolors of artist of the week, Barbara Sweeney, from 11 am to 3 pm daily. Sweeney’s original watercolors feature the ever-changing landscapes of Door County and, of course, the waters of Lake Michigan. Sweeney began painting about 10 years ago, influenced by local artist Ed Fenendael and art coach Thea Kovac in Milwaukee. Florals are her forte due to gardens that she enjoys in Door County. Door County is “an atmosphere conducive to the emerging artist,” she said. Sweeney’s art can be viewed at her own Sunrise Studio and Gallery in Sturgeon Bay. Additional work can be seen at barbarasweeneyart.com and sturgeonbaystudios.com. Sweeney is a DCAL member and serves as president of the Miller Art Museum Volunteer Board.
