Monarchs at The Ridges

On August 8 at 10 am, environmental artist Kirsten Christianson is collaborating with The Ridges Sanctuary to present “The Monarch Butterfly Paper Project” at the Woodwalk Gallery, 6746 County Road G in Egg Harbor.

Participants will learn how to cast, mold and shape handmade paper to take the form of Monarch-themed designs and other things found in Nature. This program will be offered again on Aug. 22 at 2:30 pm. All work will be exhibited at the Ridges on Aug. 29 & 30 when naturalist Brian Forest will conduct a Monarch tagging workshop. Fees are $30/Ridges members and $40/general public.

On Aug. 12 and 14 at 9 pm, The Ridges will offer guided evening hikes. On the 12th, hikers can explore the hardwood forest and shoreline of Logan Creek. The Perseid meteor shower peaks on that night. Fees are $10/Ridges members, $13/general public and $5/children under 18. Meet at the Logan Creek entrance, 5724 Loritz Road, Jacksonport.

On the 14th, hikers will learn about the unique geological features and native flora and fauna of The Ridges. The evening will conclude with a campfire and marshmallow roast at the cabins. Fees are $10 for Ridges members, $13 for the general public and $5 for children under 18. Meet at The Ridges Nature Center, 8288 Cty Q in Baileys Harbor.

The Lake Lessons presentation for Aug. 14 at 7 pm welcomes Mark Martin, retired Natural Areas Specialist with the Wisconsin DNR. He will present “State Natural Areas: Helping to Preserve Wisconsin’s Biodiversity.” For more information or to register call 920.839.2802 or visit RidgesSanctuary.org.
