Moravian Church Choir Concert

The united choirs of Ephraim Moravian, Sister Bay Moravian and Sturgeon Bay Moravian Churches will present a Moravian Music Concert at the Ephraim Moravian Church (9970 Moravia Street, Ephraim) on June 27 at 7 pm.

The music will be favorite Moravian anthems, old and new, from the 18th century through 2013. “Sing Hallelujah, Praise the Lord,” known unofficially as the “Moravian national anthem,” by Johann Christian Bechler, will be featured. Bechler was a teacher and minister in the early years of the Moravian churches in the United States, was consecrated as bishop in 1936 and sent to a Moravian community in Russia. He retired in Herrnhut Germany, the second birthplace of the Unitas Fratrum (early Moravian Church) in 1849.

There will be a freewill donation that will go to the GAPS Community Projects of Downey Moravian Church in Downey, Cali. Twice weekly they distribute healthy, fresh food to local families in need and hold an Open Table meal each Thursday. They host weekly art nights for kids, then on a different night, older teens and adults can join in a number of art projects. They identify homeless neighbors, assess their needs and find housing for them.
