“Most Delicious Piece” Awarded

The Miller Art Museum was a packed house on Jan. 17 as it hosted a festive opening reception for its new exhibit, Celebrating 40 with Festive Art About Food. Food and celebrations are good companions and this theme provided the ideal platform for the launch of the museum’s 40th year of operations. Works by 44 local and regional artists, along with the winner of the People’s Choice Award for “Most Delicious Piece,” were unveiled to the public at the event.

“We had well over 100 votes and there were numerous front-runners,” says Elizabeth Meissner-Gigstead, executive director. September Harvest, an oil painting by Sturgeon Bay artist Jo Ann Henger, took the $100 cash prize with the most votes.

In addition to the People’s Choice Award, a selection of work from the exhibit will be featured in the summer issue of Edible Door magazine. Gina Ward, co-publisher/partner, was on hand at the event to make the announcement, and introduce a handful of local businesses partners who provided their products especially for the event.

“This was such a fantastic collaboration given the theme and the event,” Gigstead continued. “Edible Door is all about sustainability and buying, eating and growing local and we were happy to support each other to provide visibility to a handful of local business partners: Sunflour Bakery, Tapuat Kombucha, Bearded Heart Coffee, Serves You Right Catering and Madison Avenue Market. Our sincere thanks to them and congratulations to all exhibiting artists.”

The exhibit will be on display through March 3.
