Mother and Son Featured at Mr. Helsinki

Artwork by Baileys Harbor artist Donna Brown will be on exhibit from May 23 through June 27 at Mr. Helsinki Restaurant and Wine Bar in Fish Creek.

The title for the exhibit, “Door County Impressions,” denotes both the process involved in creating the artwork, as well as the subjects used. Brown’s work begins as monotypes run through a press, developed by various methods and mediums including wax, collage, and photography. Though some subjects are specific, others are what she calls “mindscapes” – fragments of places and moments, interpretations of light, land and nature.

Mr. Helsinki’s Restaurant will host a reception June 4 from 5 – 7 pm, featuring live music by Brown’s son, Kalen Keir, recently returning from his first year at the University of Minnesota. Keir has appeared with a local band, The Nicks, throughout the Door County area for several summers. Though mother and son have collaborated on various visual art projects, this will be a new pairing of their artistic abilities.

The public is welcome to attend the reception and chat with Brown about her work while enjoying hors d’oeuvres and live music.

Mr. Helsinki, located in downtown Fish Creek above the Fish Creek Market, is open daily at 5 pm. For more information call 920.868.9898 or visit http://www.mrhelsinki.com.
