Movies That Matter at UUF

Religulous, a hard-hitting film that examines a variety of religious beliefs, will be shown at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Tuesday, July 21 at 7 pm as part of their “Movies That Matter” series.

Politically provocative talk show host Bill Maher skewers the current state of organized religion in this documentary that derives its title from a blend of the words “religion” and “ridiculous.” Making stops in Jerusalem, the Vatican and other holy destinations, Maher travels the world to talk to believers from a variety of faiths to find out why they’re so sure their religion is right – and why they’re so certain others are wrong. Born into a Jewish/Catholic family, Maher was raised in the Catholic tradition and interviews his own mother in the film, exploring his own religious roots. This is a provocative documentary that poses the question, “Why do you believe that?”

The “Movies That Matter” occurs on the third Tuesday of each month. The next film in the series, Flow:  For the Love of Water, will be shown August 18.The series is free and open to the public. For more information, visit http://www.uufdc.org.
