Movies That Matter at UUF

The China Study is the featured film at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Movies the Matter series on June 16 at 7 pm.

The title of the film refers to the location of the most extensive nutrition study ever. T. Colin Campbell grew up on a dairy farm and with his college degree went to work for the Cattleman’s Association to research how to get more protein into starving children. Much to his surprise, and to the chagrin of the meat industry, Campbell found that the only children developing liver cancer were the affluent ones who had adopted the western style of food consumption. The film reveals Dr. Campbell’s 40 years of subsequent research.

Americans spend far more per capita on health care than any other society in the world, and yet two-thirds of our nation is overweight, and more than 15 million have diabetes. We fall prey to heart disease as often as we did 30 years ago. The war on cancer, launched in the 1970s, has been a miserable failure. Half of all Americans have a health problem that requires taking a prescription drug every week, and more than 100 million Americans have high cholesterol.

These issues all come down to three things:  breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The China Study presents a clear and concise message of hope as it dispels a multitude of health myths and misinformation – if you want to be healthy, change your food choices.

The UUF film screenings are free and open to the public. Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located at 10341 Hwy. 42, Ephraim. For more information, visit http://www.uufdc.org.
