Millions of women marched in cities and towns around the world Jan. 20 and 21, in part to bring more women into the political process. The results of that effort are visible in Door County, where this spring a woman will be on the ballot in nine of the 10 contested elections at the municipal and county board levels. A primary election will be held for Sturgeon Bay City Council on Feb. 20 for two seats with three candidates each. The elections take place April 3.
City of Sturgeon Bay: A primary election will be held Feb. 20 for District 2 and District 6.
District 2: David Hayes, John Lodl, and Bob Starr (incumbent Ron Vandertie did not file for re-election)
District 6: Stewart Fett (I), Lauri Fish, Seth Wiederanders
District 4: Rick Wiesner (I), and Kelly Avenson
Town of Baileys Harbor: Two incumbents are running unopposed – Barbara Anschutz and Robert Schultz.
Town of Egg Harbor: Two incumbents are running unopposed – David Enigl and Steve Schopf.
Town of Forestville: No one took out papers for the position of Maplewood Sanitary District commissioner, so that will go to a write-in candidate.
Town of Gardner: Two incumbents are running unopposed – Michelle Ploor and Glenn Dart.
Town of Gibraltar: Three candidates are running for two seats – incumbents Barb McKesson and Brian Hackbarth, and Bill Johnson.
Town of Liberty Grove: Two candidates running for two seats – incumbent Louis Covotsos and Robert Tidball.
Town of Sevastopol: Incumbent Chuck Tice filed non-candidacy papers, so there are three people running for two seats – incumbent John Staveness, Jim Nellen and Kimberly Denil. Paul Wegner is running for Commissioner for the Sevastopol Sanitary District No. 1.
Town of Washington Island: Three candidates are running for two seats – William Jorgenson, Kirby Foss (incumbent) and Elizabeth Holmes (incumbent).
Village of Egg Harbor: Two incumbents are running unopposed – Robert Dickson & Lisa Van Laanen.
Village of Ephraim: Two incumbents are running unopposed – Tim Nelson and Paul Roppuld.
Village of Forestville: Three candidates are running for two seats – Shawn Henderson (incumbent), Joe Hucek, Lora Jorgensen.
Village of Sister Bay: Three candidates filed for three open seats – incumbents Denise Bhirdo and Patrick Duffy, and Rob Zoschke.
