Murphy and Sōmi Gallery Team Up to Raise Funds

Butch’s Bar was always an iconic symbol of home for Sturgeon Bay’s Meg Lionel Murphy, and in 2021, she used the bar as a setting for a painting, “Walking through Hell Flames.”

“Now that title is haunting,” Murphy said. “It’s only right that the painting is now used to help those that need it in this very difficult time.”

The artist has already raised more than $2,000 through online sales with Untitled Space, the New York Gallery that represents her work. Because it is important to Murphy to offer the prints locally, she has partnered with SŌMI Gallery, located just steps away from the Butch’s Bar site, to facilitate sales.

Prints are available in two sizes: 8 x 10 for $50, and 11 x 14 for $100. All of the proceeds will go to the United Way of Door County’s Butch’s Bar Fire Victims Relief Fund at Nicolet Bank.

SŌMI Gallery is open Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 12-5 pm. Questions? Email [email protected] or call 920.818.0809.
