Museum Director Retires

The Miller Art Museum Board of Directors announces the pending retirement of Bonnie (Oehlert) Hartmann. After nearly 25 years of service, she says, “I will be returning to my painting studio, a beautiful space on our five acres that will be a source of new inspiration. Also, it has been said, the best way to leave a job is before they wish you were gone!”

Hartmann leaves with a deep appreciation of having the opportunity to be involved in such a special place, to work with great people and a community that supports the arts in a profound way. She will continue her position at the Museum through the end of 2014 to provide a seamless transition for the organization.

The Museum Board has offered the position to Elizabeth Meissner-Gigstead, current Director of the Hardy Gallery in Ephraim. The Board and she are excited to “write this new chapter” in the history of the Museum. Meissner-Gigstead will complete the full season at the Hardy and aid in the transition to a new leader before coming to the Miller. Hartmann said, “Though it is difficult to leave a job and place I dearly love, knowing it will be in very good hands with Beth’s leadership, makes my decision to retire easier. I really look forward to working with her in the months ahead”.
