‘Music of Irving Berlin’ Highlighted during Door County Historical Society Dinner Meeting

The Door County Historical Society wraps up the season with its dinner meeting and program “Musical Notes through History: Music of Irving Berlin,” on Nov. 28 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church at 6 pm. Berlin’s music epitomized the crossroads of American history and American popular music. The performance will feature James Valcq, co-artistic director of Third Avenue Playhouse (TAP) and singer/actor Ryan Patrick Shaw.

In 2015, Valcq’s production of Irving Berlin’s I Love A Piano at TAP was named one of Wisconsin’s top ten theater performances of the year by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. In his program, Valcq will explore how Berlin’s songs were a reflection of current events in the early 20th century. Attendees will hear a number of Berlin’s tunes performed by Valcq and Shaw, who both appeared in I Love A Piano.

Guests will enjoy a buffet dinner of garden salad, baked chicken, stuffed shells, mashed potatoes, gravy, bread and cookies, catered by Scaturo’s Baking Co.

Dinner and program fees are $21 for Society members or $25 for guests. Dinner is served at 6 pm, so plan to arrive early for check-in and seating. Space is limited; make reservations by sending payment to the Door County Historical Society, PO Box 71, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235. Reservation deadline is Nov. 25. To attend the program only, the fee is $5 and it begins at 6:45 pm.
