Name Released for Door County’s Second Fatal Crash of 2023

The Door County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the driver who died in a one-vehicle crash April 14 on Mill Road in the Town of Forestville around 3:30 pm.

The driver and only occupant of the vehicle was 32-year-old Gildardo Valazquez, a Mexican national who was working in the area, according to the preliminary report from the sheriff’s office. The 2002 Nissan Xterra sport utility vehicle rolled over multiple times, ejecting the driver, and coming to rest on its roof in a plowed field east of the roadway. 

The results of an autopsy conducted April 17 at the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office were not yet available, and the incident remains under investigation.

This is the second vehicle fatality to occur in Door County in 2023. The first took place Jan. 28 when Nathan W. McKillen, 33, of Ellison Bay, died at the scene of an accident on Highway 42 on the Ellison Bay hill in Liberty Grove.
