The work of artist Nancy Briggs from Des Moines, Iowa, will be on exhibit at The Flying Pig until June 26 as a part of The Back Gallery Series. The exhibit will offer a figurative study in clay and on paper.
Briggs, whose work has been shown in regional and national juried exhibitions, has been a ceramic artist for 40 years; 20 of those years she was on the faculty of the Des Moines Art Center. “I became an artist because I loved clay. I liked throwing on the wheel, striving for control of the material and perfecting a form,” she said.
Briggs’ figurative clay work led to a recent two-year study of figure drawing. “There is no greater challenge to me than to capture the feeling and dynamic of the body in a short drawing session,” she said. “I am fascinated with proportion and detail.” This current exhibit of her figure drawings is the first time they are shown in a gallery setting.
The Back Gallery Series will continue throughout the summer and feature the digital/mixed media work of Susan Murtaugh from July 2 – 31 and the hand carved wood block prints of Alfred Stark from August 6 – September 5.
The Flying Pig Gallery and Greenspace, open 9 am – 6 pm daily, is located at N6975 Highway 42, two miles south Algoma. For more information call 920.487.9902 or visit http://www.theflyingpig.biz.
