Nasewaupee Fire Rescue Officers Named

After the Nasewaupee Town Board earlier this month appointed Jacob Schartner as the chief of Nasewaupee Fire Rescue, Schartner’s officer appointments were announced during the March 16 town board meeting. The town is forming the new department upon splitting around Oct. 1 from the other three municipalities in the Southern Door Fire Department.

The appointments include Aric Weber as safety director, Jeff Espe as assistant chief, and Randy Lynch and Ken Doell as captains. Town chair Steve Sullivan said the department’s lieutenants will be named next month.

Last week, the board also approved an employment application for the new department and discussed the possibility of forming a fire committee. Sullivan said it would be up to the board after the April 4 elections whether to have a committee.

“The chief runs the department,” he said. “The committee isn’t going to meddle in personnel issues and stuff like that. It’s up to the chief, and if the chief isn’t doing a good job, you get a different chief.”
