National Day of Prayer Breakfast at Bread & Water Café

On May 1, Bread & Water Café on Washington Island is hosting a National Day of Prayer Breakfast at 7:30 am. 2014 is the 63rd annual National Day of Prayer, formalized as an annual observance in 1952. Traditionally, the president signs a proclamation “encouraging all Americans to pray on this day.”

One Voice, United in Prayer is the 2014 theme. The National Day of Prayer reflects the inclusive freedom of religion in our nation.

The Washington Island Prayer Breakfast will begin with the reverberation of a Tibetan Prayer Bowl. Following the breakfast meal, modalities of prayer including the Benedictine practice of Lectio Divina. Concluding the breakfast, Rev. Valerie Fons will offer excerpts from The Greatest Prayer, Rediscovering the Revolutionary Message of The Lord’s Prayer by John Dominic Crossan.
