National Library Week Celebrates Making Connections

April 3-9, National Library Week, is a time to highlight the essential role that libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. The theme this year – Connect with Your Library – promotes the ideas that libraries are places to connect to technology by using broadband, computers and other resources, and that libraries help community members connect to each other.

Libraries of all types excel at keeping communities connected by expanding resources and embracing inclusion through their events, resources and collections.

Electronic educational resources available at the Door County Library include Learning Express Library from BadgerLink, a database that connects users to career-building activities, college-admissions test prep, and elementary and high school comprehension and skill projects.

Electronic entertainment and learning resources are also available on the library’s apps, such as Hoopla, Libby and Creativebug. One of the Door County Library’s unique electronic resources is Doorcountynewspapers.org, which includes free access to digitized newspapers from 1862 to 1979.

At its eight physical locations, the library provides services such as low-fee printing and scanning, along with Wi-Fi access to everyone, including students and workers who may lack internet access at home or while they’re away from home. Everyone is welcome to pick up a craft kit and participate in the library’s many free classes, story times, book discussions, expert lectures and author talks.

This National Library Week, show your appreciation and support for libraries by visiting a library in person or online, and getting or renewing your library card. Door County Library cards are free for all residents and visitors with a photo ID.
