National Recognition for Migrant Program

Mark Honold was recently recognized as the National 2008 Director of the Year for Migrant Services. He was presented the award at the 40th annual National Migrant Convention held in Orlando, Florida. Shawn Cockrum, Missouri Director of Migrant Education and current President of the National Association of State Directors of Migrant Education (NASDME), presented Honold with the award.

Honold sees the recognition as quite an honor and a tribute to the resources of Door County, as well as the benevolence of the many organizations that support his educational endeavors in the summer.

For over 40 years, Door County has had a government sponsored migrant program during the summer. The function of the program is to enhance the educational opportunities of the kids whose parents work hard and long hours in the cherry industry.
