Night Hike, Mobsters in Milwaukee, Tree Lighting & More Weekend Plans

This weekend, take a break from the stress of the holidays to enjoy a hike under the night sky, classic holiday tunes, an author presentation or folk music by Door County singer Katie Dahl.

Friday, December 11

Bring your kiddies (and their Christmas lists) to meet the big man in red at the Northern Door YMCA. 3 – 5 pm.

Night Sky Hike at The Ridges

The moon will be on the same side of the Earth as the Sun, creating spectacular conditions for viewing objects in the sky. Stop at key vantage points to enjoy celestial wonders, then finish the evening with a campfire and marshmallow roast. 6:30 pm.

Saturday, December 12

Celebrate the Holidays in Sister Bay

Bring the kids to Al Johnson’s for breakfast with Santa (9 – 11 am) before heading to Sister Bay Moravian Church’s Christmas in the Country event, featuring a chicken soup lunch, handmade rugs, bake sale and art fair. 10 am.

Mobsters in the Heartland

Author Gavin Schmitt is the featured speaker of Jefferson Street Books’ Book Talk. He will present on his book, Milwaukee Mafia: Mobsters in the Heartland, which details the rise of crime in the city of Milwaukee from when Vito Guardalabene arrived from Italy in the early 1900s until the days the Mob controlled the Teamsters.

Holiday Tree Lighting in Noble Square

Get into the Christmas spirit with a holiday tree lighting and caroling followed by social time at the history center. Enjoy Christmas cookies, hot cider and the chance to pick up gifts. 5 pm.

Sunday, December 13

Holiday Concert at the DCA

The Door Community Auditorium will host the Peninsula Singers and New Day Singers’ annual holiday concert at 3 pm. Freewill donations are encouraged.
