Natural Christmas, Tree Lightings & More Weekend Plans

The Door Peninsula is alive with holiday festivities. Take it all in Door County style with an ugly sweater run, The Ridges’ Natural Christmas, and The Peninsula Singers annual Christmas concert.

Friday, December 9

The Clearing Festivities

Celebrate the sights, sounds and treats of the season with The Clearing Folk School’s annual holiday open house. Enjoy a crackling fire, mulled cider, homemade treats and their one-of-a-kind indoor Christmas forest. 10 am – 4 pm.

Family Night at the Y

The Door County YMCA celebrates the season with an evening of games, cocoa, and card- and ornament-making for local families. Get a gift for donating a non-perishable food item. 6 – 8 pm.

Saturday, December 10

Ugly Sweater Fun Run

Don your ugliest Christmas sweater and head over to the Gibraltar High School track for a two-mile fun run/walk. Hot chocolate awaits finishers over at the YMCA. 8 am.

Ornament Painting

Join the folks at Blue Heron Glass Etching in Sister Bay for an afternoon of ornament painting. Materials, instruction, cookies and hot chocolate are included in the $5/ornament fee. 12 – 3 pm.

Natural Christmas

The Ridges Sanctuary in Baileys Harbor invites the public to get away from the shopping crowds and enjoy a peaceful evening around a campfire, take a trip to the lantern room of the Range Lights, hike through a lighted forest and make a wreath out of natural items. 3 – 6 pm.

Tree Lighting & Caroling

The Gibraltar Historical Association ushers in the holidays with an evening of gifts, cookies, hot cider and music from the Gibraltar School Chorus. Sing “O Tannenbaum” as the spirit of the past lights up the beautiful tree in the front yard. A social will follow at the Bayside Tavern. 5 pm.

The Evening News Hour

Join Rogue Theater for a mix of old and new with Kim Saunder’s holiday production, The Evening News Hour. In this holiday show, the evening news channel reports on the birth of the new Savior, complete with interviews of characters and humorous commercial breaks. 7 pm.

Sunday, December 11

Everywhere Christmas

The Peninsula Singers give the gift of their 37th annual Christmas concert at the Door Community Auditorium this Sunday, featuring audience favorites and sing-alongs of familiar carols. 3 pm.

Roots, Blues and Americana

Join Lost Moth Gallery for a Sunday evening performance by popular Steel Bridge Songfest roots-blues-Americana musician Adam Mackintosh (of the band Last Dancers). 7 pm.
