Nature Photography, Irish Folk Jam & More Weekend Plans

It’s going to be a quiet weekend on the Door Peninsula but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to do. Check out some local art or be inspired to make your own, get outdoors on skis or snowshoes, or catch the dancing talents of Door County’s little ballerinas.

Friday, January 6

Lens-Based Art

The James May Gallery in Algoma will host the opening reception of their first show of 2017, Shreepad Joglekar, Solo Exhibition. Mumbai, India-based Joglekar explores natural, constructed and intellectual spaces in his photography. The artist will be available to answer questions, and refreshments will be served. 5:30 – 8 pm.

Hands On Art

Spend your Friday evening with friends 21 and older at Hands On Art Studio during its first Hands-On Adult Art Night of 2017. Enjoy food, drink and do-it-yourself art projects at this Fish Creek art farm. 6:30 – 10 pm.

Saturday, January 7

Snowshoe or Ski

If you are in the Baileys Harbor area, stop in at The Ridges Sanctuary for a naturalist-guided snowshoe hike (if insufficient snow, a regular hike will be held) at 10 am or 2 pm. Want to ski for free? Crossroads at Big Creek invites the public to head out on their trails with skis or snowshoes free of charge every Saturday from 1 – 3 pm.

Irish Folk Jam

Head over to Starboard Brewing Company on Saturday evening for an informal gathering of the Door County Folk Alliance. Kick back with a beer and enjoy the Celtic tunes, or better yet, bring your instrument and jam out! 4 – 6 pm.

Sunday, January 8

Mini Ballet

Enjoy an afternoon of ballet from the students of Andria’s Dancin’ On the Door as they present their annual holiday production, Sara and the Toy Shoppe. 3 pm.
