NDCC Celebrates Week of the Young Child

Local authors Ann Heyse and Mary Ellen Sisulak helped celebrate Week of the Young Child, April 24-28, at Northern Door Children’s Center (NDCC) in Sister Bay. NDCC spent the week celebrating the importance of early literacy. The two local authors helped with the festivities. This year, they worked in collaboration with Write On, Door County.

On April 25, Heyse, author of Good Morning, Door County, read her book to the students in the Prescholar and 4K classrooms. After the reading, the students searched for the cherries that can be found in a special place on each page of the book.

On April 27, NDCC and families came together for a Literacy Breakfast featuring food from local producers. Mary Ellen Sisulak, author of Pinklieee!, read her book to all our students. Following the reading, she did a special art activity with the 4K and Prescholar students.
