Neighbor to Neighbor Begins Community Book Group

Neighbor to Neighbor Volunteer Caregivers of Door County, Inc. has been awarded a grant from the Bay View Lutheran Church Ruth Endowment Fund to purchase copies of Still Alice by Lisa Genova to be used in community book discussion groups.

“The goal is to get a dialogue going in the community about Alzheimer’s disease, making it a topic people can feel free to talk about,” states Ann Bennett, executive director at Neighbor to Neighbor. Local community groups interested in hosting a book discussion should contact Bennett at 920.743.7800.

The 2013 community impact numbers for Neighbor to Neighbor are in: 1,230 individuals benefitted from their services; Door County residents saved more than $400,000 in medical expenses by using their services; and 88 volunteers donated 2,809 hours of their time.

Neighbor to Neighbor provides services to the Door County Community through four free programs: peer companions, respite care for family caregivers, short-term medical equipment loans for people of all ages and the Lemonade Club, a cancer survivor support group.
