New Birdhouses Completed for Dutch Auction Sale

Door County Art League artists are decorating, painting and displaying birdhouses for the Dutch Auction Sale on July 2. The auction benefits The Gallery of the Door County Art League (DCAL). View the newest selection of birdhouses displayed throughout June in the nonprofit gallery in the courtyard at the Top of the Hill Shops in Fish Creek.

Clarence Scherer and Gene Prine, artists of the week June 18-24, both find inspiration in nature. Scherer, a photographer who owns A Decorator’s Gallery in Egg Harbor, focuses on Door County landscapes and the hidden wonders of nature. He was always interested in photography but did not make a serious pursuit of it until he studied with naturalist and nature photographer Roy Lukes in 2005. Since then he has documented the villages, roadways, farms and parks of Door County, as well as unique natural settings that many people overlook. He does his own printing on fine art paper, photo paper and canvas.

Prine brings the attention to detail and design of his career as an architect to his colorful paintings. Featured this year for the first time in the DCAL Gallery, Prine’s colorful views of water, boats and Door County barns reflect a sense of the simpler life that Door County offers.

DCAL Gallery visitors may vote for the Artist’s Choice and a chance to win up to $250 in gift certificates. Visit doorcountyartleague.org or check out “Door County Art League and Gallery” on Facebook. The gallery is open daily 11 am – 5 pm.
