New Business Strives to Become Door County’s Premier Dog Kennel

On June 23, 2008, Birchwood Kennels, located at 6552 Emerald Drive in Sturgeon Bay, opened its doors to new canine friends.

Tanya Weber, owner of the new kennel, has made sure that her business has the highest quality of care available for each of its four-legged guests, saying, “It is my personal goal to become the county’s premier dog kennel. Everything from the animal care to the facility is top-notch!”

Weber herself is a certified Dog Obedience Instructor from the Animal Behavior College, one of only a few dog obedience colleges to be endorsed by the ASPCA. Weber describes the training as a kinder, gentler approach with lots of positive reinforcement.

Along with overnight boarding, which includes hours of play time, walking and optional bathing, Birchwood Kennels also hosts dog obedience courses. Class sizes are limited to only five dogs each for lots of individual attention. Private training is also available at a reasonable rate.

Much care was put into the selection of the 40-acre property and the building of the new kennel. The open, cheery facility is outfitted with heated floors and central air for the comfort of the animals. There are large indoor and outdoor runs for the dogs and two separate outdoor play areas, along with plenty of mowed walking trails.

“We definitely cater to the picky dog owner,” laughed Weber. “Owners can rest assured knowing that I kennel dogs the way that I would want my own dogs kenneled – with lots of fun and love.”

Birchwood Kennels is accepting dogs for boarding, bathing, training and play days now. For more information call 920.743.WOOF.
