New DKBEP House Groundbreaking

The Door Kewaunee Business & Education Partnership (DKBEP) will host a groundbreaking ceremony on Sept. 22 at 4 pm to celebrate the launch of the eighth annual DKBEP High School Home Construction Project in Sturgeon Bay. The ceremony is open to the public at the jobsite, 822 N. 6th Ave., Sturgeon Bay in the Sunrise Hills subdivision.

High school students representing the Door County school districts will join forces with the Door County Home Builders Association, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC), and the DKBEP to build a 1,550 square foot residential spec home during the 2014/15 school year. Student builders include: Bryson Paschke, Bailey LaViolette, Caleb Hietpas and Trevin Joly, Sevastopol; Krystian Hallett, Gibraltar; Dakota Miller, Sturgeon Bay; and Derek Jess and David Dessart-Merckx, Southern Door.

In May 2015, when completed, the home will be for sale on the open real estate market. All revenue generated from the home sale will cover program costs and any remaining will be used as seed money toward future DKBEP projects.
