New Docks at Sawyer Boat Launch Planned

Dock replacement at the Sawyer Park boat launch is among the projects being budgeted for next year, municipal services director Mike Barker reported Aug. 24 to Sturgeon Bay’s Joint Parks and Recreation Committee/Board.

“We’re looking to get three new docks at [the] Sawyer boat ramp,” he said. “The outward docks, they’re mounted onto the bulkheads. They’re kind of at a spot to where you can’t really adjust them as much as you need to. With the water level dropping back down, it’s been harder for people to get in and out of boats.”

To deal with the rising and falling water level, Barker said he would like to replace those docks with floating docks, which are in the 2023 budget.

Barker said the dock where the police and fire boat ties up has been twisted over the years, cannot be straightened out and needs to be replaced.
